Low-Temperature Ordered Intermetallic Pt-M Nanoparticles for Fuel Cell Catalysis

Project Description:

My current work focuses on the co-reduction of transition metals like Platinum and Palladium with main-group metals such as Tin and Antimony to form ordered intermetallic nanoparticles for use as catalysts for PEM fuel cells. The fast reduction - accomplished with a strong reducing agent like Lithium Borohydride - results in a simultaneous reduction of metals that have very different reduction potentials, which in turn can create ordered nanoparticles that are, as-made, comprised of more well-disperesed metals (and in some cases, ordered structures) than slower reduction methods.
